Crash Data Retrieval

Bosch is the world leader in Event Data Recorder (EDR) information and imaging technology. Since 2000, Bosch Crash Data Retrieval (CDR) products have been trusted internationally by law enforcement, crash researchers, auto manufacturers and government agencies to access EDR information on a wide range of passenger cars, light trucks and SUVs.

What is Crash Data Retrieval?

It is the ability to obtain data from certain vehicles such as speeds, steering, acceleration, braking and other essential facts relevant to a collision.  Typically, the recordings are from a few seconds prior to an event to a second or so after.

How is it obtained?

Many vehicles on the road today are equipped with an EDR, or Event Data Recorder.  These EDRs store certain information based on manufacture specifications and Federal Law.  A majority of these vehicles’ information can be imaged using a BOSCH CDR.  Federal Law 49 CFR 563 sets out the requirements of manufacturers in having this information available for download.

Who owns this data?

This vehicle data is the property of the owner of the vehicle.  For the purposes of collisions, there are two ways in which to obtain this information.  Either through consent of the owner or a court order.

How is this information relevant to me?

Are you a company with a work vehicle?  This data can help to determine if your employee was truthful.  Are you an insurance company?  Information obtained will help you decide to pay a settlement or hold out.  Are you an attorney?  For a little investment, it may help you decide to not take a case or better yet…“double-down” on a client you know is in the right.
